What this app stores, where it lives, and what we will never do — in plain language.
What’s stored on this device
Your diary entries and your course progress are saved right here on your device, in this browser. You can use the whole app this way — write your diary, take the course, and get support — without ever making an account.
If you do make an account and later delete it, the things saved on this device stay on this device. To remove them, clear them in the app or clear your browser’s storage.
What’s stored on our server
You only have a server-stored copy if you create an account. An account exists for one reason: to keep your diary and course progress in sync across your devices. When you have one, our server holds:
- your email address
- a scrambled (hashed) version of your password — never the password itself
- your diary entries
- your course progress
- a record of the times you sign in — including the device and network address you signed in from — so we can keep you signed in
That is the whole list. Your data lives in a Postgres database hosted by Neon, a database company we use to run the server. We don’t collect anything beyond what’s above.
What the AI coach will see
We’re building an AI coach to help you practice the skills in the course. It isn’t here yet. When it arrives, it will be able to see your course progress and the skills content so it can meet you where you are.
We’ll update this page before that ships, and we won’t turn it on quietly.
No trackers
There are no ad trackers in this app, and no third-party analytics. We don’t sell or share your data with anyone.
You can check this yourself: open your browser’s network tools and you’ll see the app only ever talks to its own server, and only when you’re signed in and syncing. Our tests run that check on every page automatically.
How your data is protected
Your data is encrypted while it travels to the server and while it sits in the database. Your password is stored only as a scrambled hash, so even we can’t read it.
Here’s the honest tradeoff: the database is not end-to-end encrypted. That means we — the people who run the server — could technically open and read the diary entries stored there. We don’t, and the account is optional precisely so this stays your choice. If you’d rather keep everything off the server, simply don’t make an account: the app works fully without one.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. When you do, we immediately and permanently remove every record tied to it from our server — your account, your sign-in sessions, your diary entries, and your course progress. It can’t be undone.
Anything saved on this device stays here until you clear it yourself.
